The open season for campgrounds is dependent on snowfall, but they are generally open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Seasonal fire restrictions can go into effect during periods of increased fire danger.The forested areas in the park and surrounding green-ways provide lots of habitat for a diverse set of birds and wildlife. Fallen Leaf Lake is a scenic 15-acre lake surrounded by mature deciduous and evergreen trees. Propane appliances with an on/off valve are allowed with a valid California Campfire Permit as long as seasonal fire restrictions are not in effect. National Forest System lands in the Lake Tahoe Basin are under year-round fire restrictions.The south shore of Lake Tahoe is less than a mile. Helicopter operations will be conducted between the Taylor Creek Snopark and the Fallen Leaf Lake Marina area, requiring the closure of Fallen Leaf Road between Tahoe Mountain Road and Lily Lake. The campground entrance can be accessed by turning off Highway 89 onto Fallen Leaf Lake Road. Dispersed also known as car camping is not permitted on National Forest lands in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Fallen Leaf Campground is situated on the north shore of Fallen Leaf Lake and adjacent to Taylor Creek. Campground Directions: Fallen Leaf Lake Campground is located on the south side of Lake Tahoe, approximately 3 mi north of the Y (the intersection of Highway 50 and Highway 89) in South Lake Tahoe.
